James’ Q&A

1) Why did you join Jim’s Pest Control Adelaide Hills?

I really enjoy interacting with people, the variety that dealing with different pest problems brings and being a part of the local community. Knowing that I am able to help an individual or business with their pest problem is gratifying. Having previously owed a pest control franchisee succeed and I am backed by a strong brand and people within the group.

2) What are your values?

Providing great customer service is my number 1 driver – from the time the initial contact with the customer is made until the job is complete. This includes being punctual, delivering on what was promised and treating the customer’s home or business as if it were mine.

3) What do you like to do outside of work?

The warmer months generally involve going for a motor bike ride or water skiing on the Murray. In the cooler months, I am heavily involved with my children’s sports.

4) What tips can you give to customers?

If you are buying a house, have a Timber Pest Inspection done by someone who is trained and qualified to do the inspection. Some Building Inspectors claim that they are qualified but aren’t. If you own a home, make sure you have a termite inspection at least annually – prevention is cheaper than cure.

5) What has been one of your most interesting jobs?

The most interesting job was a termite job in an older home where there were active termites in almost every room (floorboards, skirting boards, fireplaces, door frames etc). Whilst cutting traps to access the subfloor in one room, I discovered that the termites had packed the subfloor, from the ground to the timber floors, with mud. It took several hours to remove the mud before the treatment could be completed. Every room had numerous mud leads coming up from the ground.

6) How has your Jim’s Pest Control Franchise been for you since joining?

It has been a great experience and I am achieving the targets I set myself prior to joining the team. The Jim’s brand is actually more powerful than I originally thought – there are many people that use Jim’s across many divisions. The help and assistance I get from the Franchisors is excellent and as a result, I am dealing with pests that I previously didn’t have the knowledge or confidence to control.

7) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

If I can grow the business to a point where I need to employ others to help with the workload, then I would have achieved one of my goals. From what I have experienced so far, I think this will be achieved within 5 years.

8) Pest issues that you find in your area and unique content.

The Adelaide Hills is filled with wineries, orchards and plenty of trees making it a playground for rodents, possums and termites. There are plenty of Nasutitermes nests through the hills. Like most other areas, pests such as spiders, bees, ants and cockroaches are commonly treated.
