Jim’s Termite & Pest Control Magill

1) Why did you decide to join Jim’s Pest Control?

I was looking for something else other than Photography, change of career and I have a pest control guy come around and do an inspection at my place for termites. It looked pretty easily what he was doing and I quizzed him on other stuff he did in his job. I then also found out that he spent a lot of time outdoors and meeting new people and this what I liked to do so it just seemed like a good fit for me.

2) What are your values?

I am honest, a hard worker and take great pride in the jobs I do.

3) Tell us about your Family?

I have 4 children, 3 sons and 1 daughter. My oldest son lives in Melbourne and is a state manager, my second oldest son is an industrial chemist and my daughter has just finished studying in the field of physiology, my youngest son is still at high school.

4) What do you like to do outside of work?

I used to go snow skiing every year until I hurt my leg a few years ago which I really miss doing. Now I tend to like to go to my local cafes and restaurants in Magill and if I get any time of I tend to head to the beach. In the near future my son and I are going to take up archery and we have already brought our bows.

5) What tips can you give to customers?

The tip I can give my clients is that if have cockroaches then it is really important for you to clean up a bit and remove any food sources for them. If you have only one to two cockroaches then try the supermarket products, but if you have an infestation then call a professional in as the supermarket products will not be affective on an infestation and will often cost more than the cost of getting a professional in.

6) What has been one of your most interesting jobs?

The most interesting job I have done so far was a termite job that I was called out to where there were so many termites in this house they were actually coming out of a power point. In the daughter’s bedroom the termites were dropping from the raked ceiling onto the floor, it was really scary to see how much damaged they have cause to this house. The house was almost to the stage of be demolished which was not a good thought for the owner. It was also the best job I have also done as I was able to eliminate the termites from this property within a few short weeks.

7) How has your Jim’s Pest Control Franchise been for you since joining?

It has been good so far, Jim’s has been able to give the licenses and correct insurance that I needed to run my business and I can say that without the support of Jim’s I would not own my own pest control business or be involved in the industry.

8) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In five years time I would like to see my business grow to the size where I have 2 full time employees on board and one part time employee and I think I am well on the way to achieving this goal.

9) Pest issues that you find in your area and unique content.

In Magill and the surrounding areas we are at the base of the Adelaide Hills and so we have lots of great walking trails. Waterfall Gully is a great place to go for walks and if you are lucky and look up in the large gum trees you are quite likely to spot some local Koala Bears or some lizards sunning themselves on some rocks. I especially like this area in winter time when the creeks start to flow and the country side starts to green up. We also have Penfolds wine in our back yard which turns out some really top reds. I really love living in this areas and what our local community has to offer, but because I also live local I also fully understand the pest issues that local residents face. Yes we have lots of trees and parks that are homes to possums and rats but unfortunately as these populations grow they then move into our roof voids as they also make perfect homes for these pests. These trees are also homes for termites and I have personally seen the damage that these termites have done to homes in our local area on a daily basis.
